Jacobsen presented it’s coveted Pacesetter awards during the annual dealer meeting held on February 8th in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show in Orlando. The Pacesetter award is presented each year to the top salesmen from each of three regions across the US. This year, TSP’s Steven Terrell was the recipient from the Eastern Region. With Nick Willis winning the 2009 award, Steven’s presentation marks consecutive years a TSP salesman has won the prestigious award.

How to Avoid Premature Wear of Caster Wheels and Rear Rollers

Did you know that operating Jacobsen AR-5 and AR-522 rotary rough mowers in the “mow” mode with the traction control switch turned off could contribute to premature wear of the caster wheels and rear roller?

Jacobsen recommends that when the decks are cutting, the traction control switch be in the On position. This will transfer some of the deck weight to the tractor which will lower the overall weight being carried by the casters and rollers, extending the life of these components plus improve the traction of the unit.

It is also important that the traction control system be calibrated correctly; instructions on calibration are included below. They are also found in the Operators Manual or you can contact your local Jacobsen dealer.

Traction Control System Calibration
NORMAL MODE
1 ) Start Engine
2 ) Park brake “OFF”
3 ) Full Throttle
4 ) Turn PTO Switch “ON”
5 ) Lower Decks to Ground (Joystick-lower)
6 ) Turn Traction Control switch “ON”
Let this Set-up run for 5 minutes or until at operating temperature.
7 ) Turn Traction Control switch “OFF”
8 ) Turn PTO switch “OFF”
9 ) Park brake “ON”

CALIBRATION MODE (Park Brake “ON”, Seat Switch “ON”, PTO “OFF” and Traction Pedal in Neutral)
1 ) Verify decks are all the way down. Hold momentary Traction Control switch down for 5 seconds until controller beeps and then stops.
2 ) Tap Joystick-Raise one time and wait 3-5 seconds.
3 ) If the decks remain on the ground, repeat step 2 until the decks begin to raise.
4 ) When decks are off the ground, tap joystick down and wait until decks stop moving.
All front decks should now be on the ground.
5 ) If all front decks are not on the ground, repeat step 4. Do not rush through this procedure.
6 ) Once decks are on the ground, hold down Traction Control switch for 5 seconds (listen for the beep to stop) to accept calibration.
To cancel mode, turn the key switch “OFF”

Engines Meet Stricter Emission Regulations

As the world demands higher quality and more eco-friendly engines, Jacobsen and its engine partners – Kubota, Honda and Suzuki – are dedicated to making sure every product meets or exceeds stricter engine emission compliance regulations.

The facilities at these engine suppliers are designed to gather information concerning emission regulations from all over the world and analyze it. This is performed through computer controlled automatic emission tests.

Newly developed engine models must first pass certification tests for all existing emission regulations. Then, the engines move into mass production followed by regular sampling inspections to reconfirm that they meet the high quality expectations of each engine manufacturer and Jacobsen.

“We work very closely with our engine suppliers to maximize our efforts and minimize the cost impact to the customer,” says Scott Lemos, a safety specialist with Jacobsen’s engineering department. “In the next few years the cost of compliance will increase as diesel engines come on the market with cleaner exhaust emissions standards. Gasoline engines are in the same category as regulations on evaporative (fumes) and exhaust emissions get stricter.”

Maximize the Workday with the New Jacobsen R-311T

Jacobsen’s R-311T wide area rotary mower is designed to handle the most demanding applications, efficiently and cost effectively. With an 11 foot cutting width and 7.7 mph maximum mow speed, this mower can cut 10.4 acres an hour.

Equipped with a new Kubota turbocharged diesel engine, there is plenty of power. A high efficiency deck design effortlessly slices through the tallest, thickest grass. For operators, individual deck control makes the R-311T easy to maneuver and achieve an even cut.
